Hardwood floor repairs, staining and refinishing in Margate, NJ 08402
The pictures you see above are the hallway before and once the final coat of polyurethane was applied. The floor looks shiny because it is wet the finish on thisfloorbwill dry to satin.
This is a home where a local contractor was doing work on and asked us, Extreme Floor Care, to come in and look at the hardwood floors. The home owner just bought this 3 bedroom home and the contractor was taking a wall out between the living room and a front bedroom to make it into one large living room. We had areas of the floor where the wall use to be that we needed to add new wood, there were also areas of the floor that also needed repairs because boards were cracked and some boards had termite damage. This floor is an old red oak 5/16ths face nailed floor. When I did the estimate there were concerns because in some areas of the floor the face nails rusted and the black areas around each of those nails won't go away with the sanding process. My suggestion was to stain the floor so that the black around the nails wasn't so prevalent. We came up with a red Mahogany stain and a satin finish. On the first day we came in and replaced all the bad boards and installed wood where the wall use to be. Once this was complete we started the sanding process which included the living room, hallway and 2 bedrooms. By the end of the first day we stained the floor the red mahogany. The stains we use are not only a stain but a sealer stain in one. We came back the next day and applied our first coat of 100% oil based polyurethane, then returned on the 3rd day and screened the floors and applied our last coat of the polyurethane in a satin finish. I sent pictures to the contractor everyday throughout the process so he could send them to his client. They were both very happy with the outcome which you can see for yourself with the before, during and after pictures that will go along with this article.
